Basics about Stances/skills

This guide will teach you how to learn and use your stances and skills.

Click Alt+S to display the stances/skills window. Here is how it looks like.

Learning new stances

To learn a new stance, you have to use the corresponding book while the character you want to learn it is selected. You can win some stance books by completing quests, or mainly by purchasing them in Reboldoeux (H6), at the . Here you'll find the Stance Book seller, a female Reboldoeux Soldier standing on the right of Sir Lyndon.

Before buying the book, be sure you can learn the Stance, that's to say the Stance is available for this profession/recruited NPC, and if you don't already know it. First, verify if its icon is in the Stance window of your characters AND is grayed. In the Stance window picture above, the character can still learn Levitation and Illusionist. But he can't learn ESP (already known) or Freestyle Shot (not in the list).

Once you made sure the stance is available to your character, look the requirement. In the Transaction window of the Book Seller, place your cursor on the book you're interested in an look the description :

Make sure you fit the requirements. There, for Hack and Slash, your character needs to be at least level 12, and he has to know the Back Guard Stance at level 6.

Once you're sure of your choice, buy the book, select the character you want to learn the stance and double-click the book in your inventory. That's all

Changing active Stance :

Each stance will affect differently the abilities of your character. Some stances will affect your evasion, some will affect your attack speed, etc..

You can of course use only stances you've learned (see previous paragraph).

Each stance requires a specific weapon to be equiped (some stances require to have no weapon equiped). You can quickly switch between the different stances available with the weapon you're equiped. To switch between stances, simply click the corresponding button below the HP bar of your character. You can also change the active stance of your leader by pressing F5-F8 keys.

You can't change active stance inside cities.

Level up stances and skills :

Each stance can be upgraded till level 25 separately. That is to say, the level of one stance does not affect the other stances of your character. When you gain a level with a stance, you'll benefit better bonus, get access to more skills and gain some skill points.

To level up your stances, you have to kill monsters : all 3 characters of your group will gain Stance experience, even those who didn't hit the monsters. Exp Cards won't give you any Stance experience. Only the active stance will gain experience.

Once you gained access to some skills and a few skill points, you'll be able to increase the level of those skills. Skills are mastered at level 10. To upgrade a skill, just click on the small arrow besides, in the stance window (see at the top of this guide).

Though, you may see on some website, in skill descriptions, skills going till level 11 or 12 (or even higher). This is because some equipments can give you one bonus level for a specific skill (exemple : Healing Ring +1 gives 1 level to the Healing skill).

Notice : Global skills like "Healing", "Provoke", "Concentration" (etc...) will automatically level up according to your base level. It will be mastered at level 10, once your character reach level 45.
